This feature in Richmond magazine was a philosophical take on the issue of whether certain monuments should stay or be removed. Since the story was rather conceptual, I came up with a design that wouldn’t distract the reader too much so the words could speak for themselves. I added a lens flare effect to the title and pull quotes, giving the feeling of a shadow cast by a monument in the sun. I also created abstract monument illustrations on simplified pedestals and used an orange circle element behind them to further the idea of colossal statues.
