Ovid CCM1 Common Hispanic Mutation Explainer
Social Media Explainer Video for Ovid Therapeutics
Role: Animator, Art Director
Timeline: September 2023
Client: 1AB Media (communications firm) representing Ovid Therapeutics (biopharmaceutical company)
Background
I collaborated with 1AB Media, an external communications firm for life sciences brands, on a video for one of their clients, Ovid Therapeutics. The creative brief was to create an explainer video for social media about the CCM1 gene, and illustrate the provided text in an interesting way.

I was given a text outline and the creative freedom to bring it to life with supporting imagery that was consistent with Ovid’s branding.
Because my background is in art and not biology, part of my process for explainer videos like these is to thoroughly research and understand the concepts before I create the visuals. And lucky for me…I love to learn new things! I keep a folder with tons of reference images from a variety of sources. I then simplify the ideas and incorporate them into the final animation.
For this project, I needed to learn about the structure of capillaries and how CCMs (cerebral cavernous malformations) form there. I also had to make sure that the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro trail route was accurately represented.
Conclusion
My favorite part of this animation is the transition from the DNA strand to the traveling dot to the 50/50 infographic. I love coming up with clever ways to connect adjacent pieces of content. I think the overall animation was very successful in taking the information from text to visual.
