...and it opened up my eyes to the creativity and inspiration of these often overlooked pieces of design. There are signs of all shapes and sizes that have beautiful typography and lettering. Have you ever really stopped to take in their beauty?
I just got back from a short trip to Las Vegas, Nevada to celebrate my mom's birthday (coolest mom ever). She had never been out West and neither had I. My uncle was also celebrating his birthday, so we rounded up a few other family members and hit the slots.
Besides the fabulous example above, I saw plenty of other unique signs over the course of my trip. Here are some favorites.
We actually flew into Los Angeles and drove over to Las Vegas so we could see as many major tourist attractions as possible. The shot below is from Venice Beach, California. I loved all of the graffiti, it was even on the trees!
The Pepsi-Cola one below is from Las Vegas. I love that ligature connecting the P and C.
Funny story...we ended up going two hours the wrong way when we were trying to get to the Grand Canyon. The silver lining was that we ended up at this really cool general store on Route 66 in Hackberry, Arizona. This was the jackpot of vintage signs.
Creatives are constantly looking for inspiration online, but you end up seeing the same pieces again and again. Sometimes the best ideas come from taking a closer look at your surroundings.
