Once a Richmonder, always a Richmonder: Amy Webber may have moved away from the capital, but she will forever be welcome here. Under the name Sincerely Amy Designs, she is one of the top wedding calligraphers around...and she couldn't be nicer! Amy was kind enough to clue me in to the world of calligraphy (completely different from lettering) while settling into her new home with her husband and soon-to-be-one-year-old.

Expanding on last week's post, I want to share what I learned from Ewan Clayton's lecture for the Type@Cooper program, "What is Text? What is Writing?" I highly recommend watching the entire talk (warning: it's an hour long, but worth it). Ewan is a calligrapher, writer and teacher who has extensive knowledge of letterforms and writing. His talk discusses the relationship between humans and writing.

When I was younger, I liked to change aspects of my handwriting every now and then. I went through many different phases: one year I tried out a two-story a; another year I decided to make straight descenders on my lowercase y, g and q. I even tried writing in all caps at one point in college.
